RED LIGHT AUGUST TO PREMIERE ON HOLLYWOOD SHORTS
ONLINE
Jeff Gomez Film to be Screened on Web with Streaming Video Technology
July 9,1999
Movies and the Internet will converge for Jeff Gomez starting Monday, July 12 at 5 PM, when his short film Red Light August will be made available for screening at the click of a mouse. The film was selected to be featured on the LA Live network's prestigious Hollywood Shorts Online film festival. A digitized, non-downloadable version of the film will be posted to the site, and viewers who surf there will be able to watch it in its entirety by using a popular streaming video technology. Those with broad-band access such as ISDN and cable modems will see an almost perfect motion picture.
Hollywood Shorts is a monthly series that provides emerging directors, writers, and producers an opportunity to present their short subject films and videos to the world online through the LA Live network, and to a live audience at screenings throughout the Los Angeles area. These films are chosen out of hundreds of entries from around the world. Red Light August received major kudos when it was unspooled live as a special closing selection of the Hollywood Shorts Film Festival this past February.
“Jeff has made a beautiful film, and we are especially pleased that he's finally let us showcase it on our site,” said Hollywood ‘Shortsmaster’ Kimberley Browning. “We think that Red Light is the best kind of success story. It's living proof that a short film can be a deeply personal vision, and give its director, cast and crew national recognition and major career boosts.”
The story of a friendship haunted by sexual obsession and addiction, Red Light August stars Richard H. Blake (set to don Tony Manero's white suit this October on Broadway in Saturday Night Fever), and Darlene Dahl (All My Children, and upcoming major studio release, Company Men). The 35 mm film's cinematography is by Derek Wan, HKSC (Jet Li's Fist of Legend), and its hypnotic electronic soundtrack features Lo Fidelity Allstars, Death in Vegas, and Randy Clancy. Music clearances were made through Simon Kogler's Monochrome Sounds, and the film's national and international distribution are being arranged by Kimberly Browning, and Cabot Orton of SlamDunk Productions respectively.
Red Light August was produced by Jonathan Gray of Simian Pictures, edited by Ray Chung, executive produced by Andrew Sullivan of Zealous Pictures, and co-produced by writer-director Jeff Gomez's own Starlight Runner Entertainment. Jeff is represented by Peter Levin of Artists Management Group, and by the law firm of Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Shepperd. He is currently developing projects for live-action and animated features, television, and the web.
Screening Directions for Monday, July 12 starting from 5 PM and available for 30 days thereafter:
The film will look best on a 56k or higher speed modem. After one month, the film will be archived until a formal distribution deal is signed.
