| The announcement comes on the heels of the premiere
screening of Gomez’s debut film, "Red Light August",
at the Slamdunk Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
Gomez has developed a huge following in the world of science fiction and fantasy entertainment. He recently wrote the storyline for Nintendo 64’s "Turok 2: Seeds of Evil", one of the most eagerly awaited sequels in video game history. Having grossed more than $84 million in its first month of release, Turok 2 has already eclipsed the incredible success of "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter", which Gomez also wrote and has grossed over $110 million to date. Gomez’s earlier credits include comic books and video games based on the hit trading card game, "Magic: The Gathering". Gomez’s Magic comics, many of which are based on his Tolkien-influenced “Land of Corondor” stories, have been translated into five languages and sold nearly 2 million copies. Gomez also wrote and associate produced "Magic: The Gathering—BattleMage", a video game for Sony PlayStation and PC based on his characters and concepts. "Red Light August" -- a 30 minute co-production of Zealous Pictures, Simian Pictures, and Gomez’s Starlight Runner Entertainment -- is the story of Boothe, a reclusive young painter suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Boothe’s fragile friendship with a homeless teenage poet is endangered when the boy discovers clues to Boothe’s bizarre OCD ritual. Noted Hong Kong action shooter Derek Wan (Jet Li’s "Fist of Legend") handled the film's lush cinematography, and its haunting score features songs by such Euro-techno acts as Lamb, Lo Fidelity Allstars, Death in Vegas, Superswirls, and Ashtrax . "Red Light August" has also been chosen to close the Hollywood Shorts Film Festival, which introduces emerging directors and their production teams to the Los Angeles film community through short subject film, video and animation. The screening takes place in Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, February 14, 1999. Included as a Special Presentation of the program, "Red Light August" will screen along with the festival’s other shorts as at The Joint, 8771 West Pico Blvd., West LA at 6 PM. Jeff Gomez is now represented by Peter Levin at Artists Management Group, and is currently discussing a major new cross-media project with several studios.
