Jeff has also devoted much of his life to working to realize the potential in young people. As a creative writing teacher in New York City’s public school system in the 1980s, he devised a curriculum that tapped into contemporary pop culture and taught children to recognize the meaning of heroism in everyday life. That curriculum formed the basis for Gateways magazine, Jeff’s first success in the field of storytelling. As part of his duties as President and Publisher of Gateways Publications Inc., Jeff toured the country in tandem with Childhelp USA and Partnership for a Drug-Free America performing his Cosmic Streetcorner inspirational seminar. Through his talks to youngsters at comic book and science fiction conventions, and at public schools, Jeff detailed the perils of substance abuse and addictions of all kinds. Red Light August, a short film written, directed and co-produced by Jeff Gomez, premiered at the Slamdunk Film Festival in Park City, Utah in January of 1999. The music driven story of a friendship between two youths haunted by obsession and addiction, Red Light August went on to become the featured film at the Hollywood Shorts, Lower East Side Festival of the Arts, and L.A. Live online film festivals. The film also made an impact on the 1999 Obsessive-Compulsive & Spectrum Disorders Association conference, where it influenced new courses of exploration into the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Most recently, Red Light August was aired on KQED, the PBS affiliate in San Francisco, on its Independent View film forum. Unusually high ratings and strong viewer reaction has prompted KQED to air Red Light August several more times this season, and the film is set to air on PBS affiliates in Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, and New York throughout the year. As President and CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment, Jeff is currently overseeing the development of the Action Drive System, as well as consulting for feature film producers, comic book companies, and video game and website developers. He is also completing his first novel, The Shadow Angel for Random House. Jeff lives in Chelsea, New York with his wife, noted digital artist Chrysoula Artemis, and their cat Morgana. Jeff Gomez is represented by Peter Levin and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein of Artists Management Group, the major crossmedia production and distribution company founded by Michael Ovitz, Rick Yorn and Julie Silverman Yorn. Jeff's literary agent is Jennifer Unter, and his attorney is Phil Cowan of Cowan, DeBaets, Abrahams & Sheppard LLC.
